What should a solar maintenance plan include?
Define the panels to be cleaned, safe access, the cleaning method, a proposed visit interval, and who can change that interval. State whether photographs, a visual condition note, or other completion records are needed. These items belong in the quote; they are not automatic features of every visit.
Surface cleaning is different from electrical diagnosis, inverter repair, roof work, or pest exclusion. If a visit reveals a damaged cable or an inverter alert, ask your installer or a qualified electrician to assess it. A cleaner can flag what is visible without diagnosing the system.
How should you set the visit interval?
Start with a safe ground-level view of the glass and any dated photographs from an earlier cleaning. Bird deposits, pollen, road dust, ash, tilt, and nearby trees can make two homes in the same city soil at different rates. Compare monitoring on similar clear days, while allowing for shade, weather, and equipment faults. Visible buildup plus a repeated production pattern is stronger evidence than one low reading.
An inspection can be scheduled regularly even when cleaning is not. After a first visit, review how much material was found and whether it returned. How do you compare a plan price with one-time work?
Request both quotes for the same panel count, mounting, access, and documentation. Note any minimum term, rescheduling rule, and treatment of unusually heavy soiling. The per-visit rate may differ when work can be routed with other jobs, but there is no reliable universal discount. For a combined gutter or bird-proofing job, request a separate price for each service and a combined price with the scope spelled out.

What happens during a visit?
Ask the crew to follow the module maker's cleaning instructions and explain its water, brush, and access method. Total Solar Cleaning uses deionized water and soft brushes for its cleaning work. When is a plan unnecessary?
A one-time event such as a nearby construction project may call for one inspection or cleaning rather than a recurring schedule. A house being sold soon may only need a single scoped visit. If the glass is clear but production has fallen, ask the installer to check shading, inverter alerts, and electrical faults before buying more cleaning.
